7 Fun Ways To Bond With Your Co-Workers

By Francine Fluetsch on December 1, 2015

It’s always good to like the people you work with. You are around them constantly, and they can be a great comic relief after dealing with a crazy customer, or two, or 10.

If you are looking for ways to bond with your co-workers, here are some fun holiday themed ideas to get that friendship going!

1. Make holiday cookies.

Everyone loves sweets, and this will be a fun way to bond and learn new traditions. Maybe you make cookies using your grandma’s secret recipe, and your co-worker makes these delectable chocolate, melt-in-your-mouth, holiday treats.

No matter what you will be celebrating, having a baking session will help you get to know each together more outside of work and have a fun time doing it. Plus, baking always involves eating, and we all know that’s everyone’s favorite part.

2. Go shopping.

The malls and shops will be in total chaos, so you don’t want to face them alone! Get your co-worker to help you on your mad hunt of finding presents for all your friends and family. Maybe they have some helpful gift ideas for those people in your life that you just don’t know what to get.

You’ll now have someone to talk to during the long lines, and you’ll both get some much needed shopping done. Maybe they even know of stores or places to go that you’ve never been before, so you can see new locations and hopefully locate those perfect gifts.

3. Go for a night out.

Why not get a big group of your fellow employees together and all go out for dinner or drinks or dessert, or all three? Letting loose and not having the stress of work will help you all bond in different ways, learning more about hobbies and personal interests in addition to work related topics.

A big group is best when you don’t know anyone all that well yet, so there will never be an awkward pause in the conversation, and you might mesh well with people that you never thought you would. You don’t have to go out with them all the time, but once in a while it might be a great break for all of you to do something fun after a long day of work.

4. Give snow sports a try.

If you live close to the snow, or within driving distance, why not hit the slopes with some co-workers? Skiing and snowboarding are great things to do with other people because you have company when you want it, but don’t have to be talking the whole time. You can also all go sledding, or ice-skating, and then warm up with some hot chocolate.

This will definitely get you on the way to becoming good friends! And make sure to encourage first timers too. This way, everyone will be included and can join in on the fun. Some slopes give college discounts, so look that up beforehand and make sure to take advantage.

5. Go glazing.

Handmade gifts are fun to make, especially for your family. Why not go with a co-worker or two and go to a glaze place where you can add your own flare to a vase, plate, butterfly, you name it? There are usually tons of items to choose from, including paints in lots of different colors. Most studios don’t limit the amount of time you are in there. Artsy stuff is always fun to do with others, and a studio will be a great place to talk and see a different side of your co-worker.

6. See the lights.

There are always those neighborhoods that go all out with their decorations. Some even sync their lights to a radio channel, so when you drive by you can switch your station to that channel and the lights will dance to the music. It’s so awesome! This is a fun way to get in the holiday spirit, and it doesn’t have to be a long excursion, so you can have some out of work bonding time, but it doesn’t have to be for too long.

7. Hit up an amusement park.

Amusement parks are 10 times more fun with a big group, so why not go with your co-workers? Check online to see how big your group needs to be to get a discount, and then invite that many people. A lot of the parks will be decked out for the holidays, so you’ll see some cool sights, eat greasy food, and enjoy the park. Make sure to pick a park that has a variety of things to do, so people who don’t like rides can still come.

These are just a few ways that you can start bonding outside of work with your co-workers. You don’t have to be best friends with every single one of them, but it will really benefit you to at least be civil and on good terms to make the work experience better for you and the customers.
